The New Year started with a bang at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday with residents ringing in 2013 at parties, churches and other locations across the territory. Hundreds of revellers at a party organised by Aragorn's Studio, the Trellis Kitchen and Cyber Café watched a midnight fireworks display that lasted over 10 minutes. The party included entertainers such as mocko jumbies, the steel band Shooting Stars, DJ Abreu, fireball sculptures and several bands. “It was great,” Jeremy Wright, an organiser said in an interview on Jan. 2. “The party was friendly, entertaining and there was much more to see as well as good food,” Mr. Wright said. At Jost Van Dyke, about 7,000 people gathered at Foxy’s Outback grooving to the reggae music of Tarrus Riley during the annual Foxy’s New Year’s Party. Even though it rained a bit, that didn’t stop the party, Ms. Callwood said. |
